depa Approves AgTech Projects Proposed by 9 Community Enterprises
in Upper North to Create Digital-Driven Solutions to
Boost Farm Income on Journey to Thailand 4.0 
August 6, 2020 – The Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa) approved nine agricultural digital technology projects proposed by community enterprises in the upper North. They will use digital technologies and innovation to maximize the efficiency of the manufacturing management so as to generate income in preparation for the Thailand 4.0 era. The depa is committed to providing support to community enterprises to encourage them to adopt the standardized digital technologies and innovation that match the nature of their businesses.
Dr. Nuttapon Nimmanphatcharin, President/CEO of depa , said that depa has continuously provided promotion and support of digital technologies and innovation in all aspects, especially the adoption of digital technologies and innovation to improve the quality of life of people in the society, communities and remote areas across the country. The depa’s support of digital technologies and innovation has been made through digital providers that registered with the depa. In 2020, the depa aims to provide support of digital technologies and innovation to 193 communities.
Lately, the depa held the seventh subcommittee meeting of 2020 to consider its promotion and support for community enterprises that submitted digital-driven projects to receive promotion and support under the depa Digital Transformation Funds for Community scheme. The subcommittee meeting approved nine projects proposed by community enterprises in the upper North. They are as follows;
1. Adaptive agricultural digital technology for smart mushroom farming proposed by a community enterprise to cultivate economic mushrooms at Baan Papao community in Chiang Mai.
2. Smart irrigation system and renewable energy for mushroom nursery proposed by organic mushroom farming community enterprise at Vieng Tan Sub-District, Hang Chat District in Lampang.
3. Smart water management system using the Internet of Things (IoT) to enhance efficiency of the lime orchard proposed by lime growing community enterprise at Baan Yod community, Song Kwae District in Nan.
4. Solar Greenhouse for natural agricultural practice proposed by Lee Suu community enterprise at Vienghaeng District in Chiang Mai.
5. Smart farming drones at Mae Wang Smart Farming proposed by sweet corn farming community enterprise at Mae Wang District in Chiang Mai.
6. Smart farming drones for Fang farmers proposed by sweet corn farming community enterprise at Fang District in Chiang Mai.
7. Agricultural mobile application developed to promote smart farming in the digital era proposed by Baan Phai Ngam organic vegetable farming community enterprise at Wiang Sa District in Nan.
8. Agricultural management and farm marketing for smart farmers in the digital age proposed by Baan Han 2 community enterprise that makes dried vegetables and fruits at Tha Wang Pha District in Nan.
9. Chicken egg layer management and production proposed by Baan Na Huk farm product processing community enterprise at Mae Rim District in Chiang Mai.
“The depa has a core responsibility to promote and support local communities to further drive the success of the local wisdom through the use of standardized digital technologies and innovation. Communities are allowed to select the right digital technologies and innovation that have been certified by the depa in order to suit the nature of business of each community enterprise. The objective is to stimulate learning, searching, and evaluating the suitability of each digital technology prior to applying or utilizing a particular digital technology. It is also a preparation for moving forward to the Thailand 4.0 era” said the President/CEO of depa.
The nine projects that have been approved by the depa’s subcommittee to receive promotion and support under the depa Digital Transformation Funds for Community scheme are expected to help enhance competitiveness and efficiency of manufacturing and management of each community in order to create quality products that meet the needs in the market. They are also expected to help increase income and elevate the quality of life of local people in communities. They are expected to generate around 2 million baht in the economic system.
